Ctrl+Alt+Delete

Now before any of you geeks out there begin to get a rise out of my title..let me burst your bubble and let you know that I am not about to go into some long techie talk. Recently as the seasons changed and the flowers began to bloom, I sudddenly felt that it was time for a change in my life. Every time that I would discuss this with some one for some strange reason I would always throw the phrase "Ctrl- Alt- Delete" in there, as in restarting my life. Lord only knows how I came up with this comparison (it's clever regardless if I must say!). As prepare to leave my 20"s behind, I realized that I dont have many of the things that I planned to have by the time I reached this age. Now while I will spare you from going into the detailed inventory of all the things, I will go on to say that by writing this blog I instantly feel as if I'm one step closer to my life's goal. Words cannot explain what a creative release I experience when I write or talk about things that I love, over the several months I am truly dedicating my energy to me. I now wake up every morning with a purpose and a plan..there are no more "pointless' days filled without productivity. Claiming my spot in success is no longer an after thought, it's in the forefront of my mind. Ladies if your feeling that some things are missing in your life make this your season to live your life to the fullest. Aspire to achieve and dare to be determined and last but not least maintain "faboulosity"(thanks Kimora) while doing so. So go ahead and press Ctrl-Alt-Delete on your life and let the success begin!.

"Usually I don't do this, but Ummmm!!!!

Okay, so I've just about had it up to here with the slick talking dudes. For all of my adult life I have been a big girl, and while I have had "issues" in regards to this I have never viewed my self as ugly or desperate. I am also a straight shooter and will not hesitate to mention that I am one of the few black women who got shut out of the "Booty Brigade". While many women may view this as a disaster and could not imagine being like me I have learned to see it as a gift and a curse. While I have dated men from various races, I must say that my preference is black men..with this being said we already that there is a natural discrepancy between me and "THEM". It's not hard to notice that I have too much of this and not enough of that, but what gets my blood boiling is when men utter the words "USUALLY I DON'T DATE BIG GIRLS/ GIRLS LACKING IN THE ASS DEPARTMENT" but damn theres something about you so I decided to get at you. Hold up am I supposed to be honored???, why is it that men are so sure that a "Fat, Big, plus-sized, etc"woman has such low self-esteem that we should jump for joy that your corny ass wants to "Get at us". I almost clawed my friends eyes out when he told me that his date for the night was "pretty for a dark skinned girl, so he's gonna give her a try", I mean are we still trapped in the "80's?. I can't even begin to tell you how many friends that I know who may not look like the "typical" standard of beauty and ends up liking who ever likes them( lord knows it's a real problem if he's somewhat cute). Please don't get it twisted due to the amount of loosers I have come encounter with at some point I have been guilty of getting caught up in this bullcrap, but trust me one will never catch me thanking a guy for choosing me or being interested in me. I truly feel like that unexpected person can come along and take you by surprise, but in regards to the aforementioned jerks, the foam coming from there mouths and the glare in their eyes assures me that they are interested in one thing only..an after hours experiment. Many of these guys want to know what "dark skinned coochie is like" or are "Big girls really freaks" and plan to find out after club hours and before business hours (LOL). Ladies please trust that you will not be in public company with him, or if you do get a date it will be in a different borough or in a very non descript local (think sleazy diner in the shadiest part of town, topped off with a trip to his mamas basement to watch bootleg pornos with a couple swigs of pint sized henney to share between the two of you). Yes in case your wondering this happened to me, fortunately I hot tailed it out of there when the combo of water damage scented carpet and the infamous porno appeared out of no where(Heehee). Thank god I got this crap out of the way years ago, only serious dudes who can appreciate me genuinely and not for me being a potential "night train" need apply. Ladies please remember every yin has it's yang and with this I hope that whether your " too fat, too, skinny, to dark, acne prone, or just plain 'ol jane never settle for any random dude for fear of being deperate, alone or even horny. Hold out for the one you really want the tremendous swag alone will reel 'em in.

Beauty on a Budget

Hello everybody and welcome to the first installment of my blog. As some of you might know I have always been passionate about all things beauty no matter the cost, well I've got news for you it's 2009 and the "Recessionista" has arrived. At the age of 12 I was introduced to fashion magazines due to the fact that my mom always brought them home from work. Needless to say I instantly fell in love with all of the ads for beauty products, I just knew that when I grew up I was going to wear makeup. Fast forward to my trip to Atlanta at age 19, this was my first introduction into the wonderful world if M.A.C cosmetics. Like a little baby I was instanly attracted to the assortment of skittle colored eye shadows and pretty pink lip glosses. For 8 years I had a monogamous with M.A.C and often got rave reviews after i "beat" my face to a pulp. I was convinced that by using this particular product I would always get a flawless finish without fail, like most relationships I would soon realize that the fire dosn't always burn. Soon after I moved into my first apartment and began to experience real adult responsibilities such as rent, light, gas, cable, food, furniture purchasing $ 28 foundation and $14 lipgloss seemed sinful.I was determined to recreate my M.A.C looks for a fraction of the cost, so off to my local Duane Reade. My first purchase was a lip gloss and eye shadow (so far can you tell that I love these 2 combos?), immidiately the makeup Gods answered my prayer..I LOVED IT. The smell, texture and pigment were of great quality and I spent less than $8, do the math people, thats less than half the price of some lip glosses at dare i say it "overrated" M.A.C. Now please let me make things clear, I am in no way saying that M.A.C makes substandard products, nor am I saying that I have stopped wearing the products, what I am saying is there are plenty of great products that give you a great look so long as you've got a good face( LOL). The moral of the story is this, I am a strong beliver of "diversifying your makeup portfolio"(damn Im funny), dont be afraid to wear a mix of high and low end products..start of with that expensive foundation if you like and top it off with a fabulous $4 lipstick/gloss, i do it all the time and love it. Trust me a true Diva can rock it as if she's just stepped out of a M.U.A(make up artist) chair, it's all about perception. If you've already established a reputation as a high end chick the average untrained eye will not know the difference between Nars or Maybelline, just remeber be tasteful and take time to learn good application technique. While I am no professional M.U.A and have no aspirations to be one, I must say "playing" in make up is truly fun and even relaxing to me. In the near future I will be posting vlogs on You tube under the name Browngirlbeauty. I will be discussing any and everything in regards to fashion, beauty, music and pure 'ol pop culture jargon. I will hope that you watch, learn and laugh once you see it, until then I thank each and every one of you for stopping by my blog.

Sincerly,
